Applying for financial aid sounds difficult with the various forms and documents involved. But it isn’t as bad as it seems, there is plenty of help available.  Just start with the steps below and don’t forget to ask for free assistance from your local community college financial aid expert whenever you need it. Just enter your zip code in the “Get Help Now” box.

Congratulations, you've already taken the first step to getting a great educational experience. If you need help paying for fees, books, supplies and sometimes even rent, take the next steps below.

  • Visit the financial aid office at your community college campus and get one-on-one help working through the process and discovering all your financial aid opportunities.  If you need to, you can use the Get Help Now box above on the left to get the office’s address and telephone number.
  • Compile appropriate financial documentation (income tax returns, etc.) using the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.
  • Fill out the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). This step opens the door for virtually all forms of financial aid including the Pell Grant, Cal Grant, scholarships and low interest student loans.
  • Fill out the application for the California Community Colleges Board of Governors Enrollment Fee Waiver (BOGW). (BOGW Spanish version) If you’re eligible, the Fee Waiver will take care of all your community college enrollment fees.
